Night Rating
Getting Your Night Rating
Flying at night is of course very different from flying during the day. Doesn’t this stop you and you still want to fly at night? Then you must go get a Night Rating, because without this piece of paper you are not allowed to fly after dark.
During this training, you will receive at least five hours of hands-on instruction in our DA-40
Preset Requirements
- Possesses a minimum of PPL/LAPL
- Medically examined

Night Rating at Wings over Holland
This training has several names, such as: Night Rating, Night Qualification, Night Qualification, etc. During this training, you will take to the skies at night with one of our flight instructors. So you will learn what it is like to fly at night and the special operations involved.
Do you want to begin FI or CPL training? Then obtaining a Night Rating is one of the requirements.

NR Theory
In addition to learning night flying in practice, you will also learn the theory of flying in the dark. You will receive an explanation of the practical aspects of night flying, including:
- The effects on the body
- Night Vision
- Applicable law
- Optical illusions
These aspects are discussed prior to flying.
Medical Examination
No pilot can fly and achieve his Night Rating without being medically examined since good health is a major requirement in aviation.
At Wings over Holland, we recommend that you get your Class II Medical Examination at Aeglia. This medical center is at Lelystad Airport so is nearby for anyone who wants to get their pilot’s license with us.
Cost of training
5 hours of flying lessons on the DA40 at € 310 per hour
€ 1.550,-
Total €1,550.
The prices listed above do not include landing fees and runway lighting fees, including VAT. The above practice program is the minimum required approach. Person-dependent, more training may be required.

You made it: a Night Rating. So what are your next steps in your flying career? Now that you can fly at night, you can continue your education for Flight Instructor. It is also possible to begin a Commercial Pilot License with a Night Rating. Plenty of options.
Flight Instructor
After obtaining your pilot’s license, begin training as a flight instructor.
