The Class Rating Instructor Single Engine (CRI-SE) course at Wings over Holland is designed specifically for experienced pilots who want to become instructors on single-engine aircraft. This training offers pilots the opportunity to transfer their knowledge and skills to others and guide them in their flight training. To participate, a pilot must have at least a Private Pilot License (PPL), 300 flight hours on fixed-wing aircraft, including at least 30 hours as pilot-in-command on a Single Engine Piston (SEP) aircraft. In addition, a valid medical examination and an active SEP rating is required.

CRI-SE training combines practical and theory for complete training. The practical component includes a minimum of 3 hours of flight training on a DV-20 Katana, while the theory lessons cover a minimum of 35 hours and are integrated into the practical training. During the training, participants learn how to teach effective flying lessons, supervise students and develop their rating skills. This makes the Class Rating Instructor Single Engine training course an essential step for pilots who want to become instructors within the SEP class.

Completion of CRI-SE training is followed by an exam, consisting of a practical flight of approximately 1.5 hours under the supervision of an examiner. This training is the starting point for pilots who want to pursue a professional role as an instructor and further develop their career in aviation.

What is a CRI-SE allowed to do?

A Class Rating Instructor Single Engine (CRI-SE) is authorized to provide instruction to pilots seeking to obtain, maintain or renew a class rating for single-engine aircraft. This means that a CRI-SE may provide training on aircraft within the Single Engine Piston (SEP) class.

In short, a Class Rating Instructor Single Engine focuses on the continuing education of existing pilots within the SEP class and plays an important role in maintaining and improving pilot skills.
