MEP-IR at Wings over Holland

The Multi Engine Piston – Instrument Rating (MEP-IR) course at Wings over Holland is designed for pilots who want to master instrument flying on multi-engine aircraft. An MEP-IR allows pilots to fly under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), enabling them to operate safely and efficiently in limited visibility conditions. To participate, a pilot must hold at least a PPL (Private Pilot License), have a valid MEP rating, have completed 50 hours of overland flights as PIC and be medically cleared.

Training includes both practical and simulator training. Pilots must complete a minimum of 55 hours of practical experience, consisting of 15 hours of instrument flying on a DA42 and 40 hours of training on an FNPT II simulator. Simulator training provides a safe and controlled environment to develop IFR skills prior to practical application. Theory classes are provided externally by Orbit Groundschool, where pilots are prepared for the required exams for their Multi Engine Piston Instrument Rating.

Completion of MEP-IR training is followed by a practical exam, including an approximately 1.5-hour exam flight under instrument conditions. For pilots who already have an SEP-IR, a shortened training program of 2 hours on a DA42 and 3 hours on an FNPT II simulator applies. With a Multi Engine Piston Instrument Rating, pilots increase their capabilities within aviation and gain the skills to operate professionally and reliably under IFR.
