Night Rating (NR)
Learn night flying and increase your opportunities with a Night Rating

Getting Night Rating
Night Rating (NR) training at Wings over Holland enables pilots to conduct night flights safely and independently. This qualification is a valuable extension to a Private Pilot License (PPL) and requires the pilot to be medically cleared and have a valid Single Engine Piston (SEP) rating. Night flying presents additional challenges, such as limited visibility and orientation to instruments, requiring specific training.
NR training consists of a practical portion of at least 5 hours of flight training on a Diamond DA40NG. During this training, pilots learn essential skills such as taking off and landing in the dark, night navigation and recognizing visual illusions while flying in low light. The focus is on developing confidence and accuracy to operate safely under night conditions.
Upon completion of Night Rating training, pilots can fly without sight restrictions after sunset, significantly increasing their flexibility and pilot experience. An NR qualification is valid indefinitely and does not need to be renewed periodically. This makes it a valuable addition for pilots looking to expand their capabilities and get more flying hours in a variety of conditions.
